Insiproachan - 'The Inspirato' - Part One

In this industry there are people you look up to, people you inspire to be like and people you try to emulate without losing sense of self. For me, that person is rolled into one. My favorite Toronto DJ and someone I am truly proud to call 'friend' (and a good one at that) Nathan Barato.
Get my stupid pun now? Inspi-ROACH-an, inspir- RATO, AKKKK! Never mind!
I met Nathan back in 2005, I remember running up to him telling him how he saved my life and how he's the reason I'm alive, he smirked and said... and I quote...
'Ya...? Sick! How?'
I explained how my eyes were heavy and how I was falling into a deep coma while driving home from Ottawa one night and his set on CLUB246 kept me awake the drive home. He appreciated the words and the early stages of the Ace & Baratcho friendship began.
The Barats was an integral part of the first ever Dance 2 Da Beat (D2DB) and has continued to be a pillar of D2DB. I originally told Nathan my idea about this event when I found out my mom was terminally ill. I had just about enough of the stupid C word that I wanted to do something about it.
Hell... David beat Goliath and if one David can beat a giant, hell, why can't I?
It was Nathan who hooked me up with Joel and Steph, owners of Footwork Bar & Afterhours, which ended up being 'home base' for D2DB. Nathan was the first larger scale DJ to hop on to the D2DB train and who later helped secure the Vinyl Junkies and Carlo Lio into the mix.
Nathan's name on the bill gave me something to focus on, work around and use to help market and hire other Toronto DJs. He’s my ear for D2DB; I basically run every idea by him before I run in through anyone. He’s also steered me down the proper avenues at The Guvernment and overall has really helped push me to push D2DB.
(Writer's Note: As I'm writing this, Nathan just text me some random text about spreadin' peanut butter... the boy is wacky.)
Even with all this, the 'inspiration' part hasn't really come into play. So, I decided 'Inspiroachan' will be my first ever writing series (play the trumpets, baby!).
So, if you’re heart desires (which it should) read Part 2. Same Ace time, Same Ace channel! err... Same ACE Article!
