SCENE REVIEW

Stepping Into Avalon
Review by: Miss Raquel

Upon entering Avalon Nightclub which used to be Toronto’s infamous small House club, Mad Bar, it’s like entering a pool of a liquid metal. As I walked down the red carpet, past the welcoming door staff it hit me, a blue hue of pure coolness.

Once I was in the club I was welcomed with a whirlwind of flashing lights in green, yellow and red. There is an awesome set up of lights on the wall which look like bubbles all lit up with different colours inside them. The entire club is done in mirrors which give off the appearance of liquid metal. With the lighting the mirrors reflect and bounce off each other giving off a very futuristic look.

There’s a long bar on one side, and on the other side is the bottle service area which has white couches with small cylinder tables with lights aiming upwards from the floor inside them, and the DJ booth is up high at the front of the club. There is a loft area as well which can hold a whole other room with a DJ, bar and table service.

Now, the interesting part is the washrooms, it seems Canada’s is trying to compete with Europe in the sense of the most artistic and unique washrooms. Avalon’s is unisex, with one area for the girls and one area for the boys. And it’s totally blue. Sorry ladies doing your make-up in here will be a tad difficult, but it’s a fair size and has two modern sinks which both sexes use, so yes, you can tell who has washed their hands and who hasn’t!

Avalon encourages bottle service and this venue is just the place for it. I was served Skky Vodka. And I didn’t have to ask for refills or glasses as I have in the past with bottle service at other venues. My server was is right there, it’s like she had ESP!

My host for the night was Dr. Dave from Freshworks Productions and he treated me and the entire Scenester crew well, like Socialites. His night is Sundays and yes it’s called, Socialites Unite.

On this Scenester night there was a good crowd and I was in the DJ booth on the mic giving away some a prize bag with DJ Jayforce by my side and the winner ended up taking his clothes off (he kept on his undies) and ran around the club, then up the stairs to the DJ booth to get his bag, and then he ran back down again and put his clothes back on. See only in a place called Avalon would this kind of fun happen!

Avalon is nestled within Toronto’s club district and is one of those gems which is run by good people and attracts a good crowd, and I really hope they keep what they have going and booking all the great DJ talent we have in this city.
