Dirty South @ Sizzle (Hamilton)
Review by: Samhouze

Let me set the scene for you. It was 11.45 pm and I was on my way home after a long day at work. Everything seemed normal for this time of night. If everything was normal, why did I have this itch in the back of my head? Let me think…did I pack away everything at work? Check. Did I grab my wallet from my locker? Check. Then what was it...ah right Dirty South was playing Sizzle up in Hamilton. A couple of phone calls to ensure that there were still tickets at the door, a quick stop at the bank machine to cash up and it was off to Hess Village in Hamilton for Lauren and myself.

Now I’ve never been to Sizzle before and was immediately impressed by the layout of the club. They have a dining room downstairs with the main club being upstairs. There are actually three levels with the dj booth being on the third level overlooking the dance floor. There was space on the third floor balcony, which wrapped around the dance floor, for people to dance as well as a smoking patio on the second floor. Our timing was mint as the sounds of “Welcome to a higher state of consciousness” blared through the speakers. It looked like the Serbian born Australian DJ had just begun.

Now I’ve been a fan of Dirty South for over a year now and already knew of his incredible talent as a producer and re-mixer. I had heard stories of his talent behind the decks as well so it’s safe to say I was pumped. Sure enough the man delivered. Playing for three and a half hours, he played a lot of his own productions. And why not…they are terrific productions. What impressed me was the way he teased the crowd, constantly working the decks and creating live remixes of his already great work. Highlights for me included a wicked mix of “Green Velvet – La La Land”, “Cicada – The Things you Say (dirty south remix) and the classic “The Doors – The End” which I am told is his remix as well.

The crowd was a loud and boisterous one that had high energy throughout his set. Even at the end there was terrific appreciation for what had been an outstanding set. Walking out the doors at 3:15am just about three and a half hours after this adventure began; it was safe say that we were pleasantly fulfilled for a Wednesday night. Congratulations to Nightdreamer productions for throwing one hell of a party.
