Family Day w/Nic Fanciulli & Sharam (Deep Dish)
By: Josh Shannahan

In the year 2007 it would be hard to argue any artist made more of an impact than Deep Dish's Dubfire. Following the massive success of productions like Ribcage and Roadkill, and his continued success as a DJ, he is at the top of the dance music community. The only problem was for The Guvernment's Family Day party Dubfire wasn't coming.

After years playing as a tandem Dubfire and Sharam took a break from performing as Deep Dish and each pursued their own solo careers. While Dubfire was flourishing the same success could not be said for Sharam. Dubfire was pushing the boundaries making cross-genre productions played by anyone from Armin Van Buuren to Steve Lawler and everyone in between. Sharam took a slightly more commercial route and was met with far less critical acclaim and a lackluster showing by his Global Underground 29: Dubai album.

Another tandem that enjoyed success in 2007 was Nic Fanciulli and James Zabiela. Among other things they released an album under their One + One alias, as well as a successful tour and a performance from the Radio One Pool Party from The Winter Music Conference. Zabiela would not be in Toronto until the following week.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't going into the evening ready for disappointment. I was prepared for this party to be about "The tandems that weren't."

I was wrong.

This party was about "The tandem that was!"

In a surprise ending to an already enjoyable party Nic Fanciulli returned to the stage joining Sharam to play a back to back set.

As I was leaving the party I overheard someone say, "That reminded me of the reason I started liking Deep Dish in the first place."

I can't think of a better way of putting it.
