Heavy Petters

I am pretty discerning when it comes to music. However, I will listen to almost anything once. When I look for music to add to an already vast collection, I need things to sound interesting, finished, and in high quality. Up until now, The Heavy Petters were unknown to me. Vocal House music is my genre of choice but there was a time and a place in the scene when I could only be satisfied by a broken beat, some drums, and some bass. Hearing track 2, Sick and Tired was exactly what I needed after a long day of listening to the looping snowboarding DVD played at work. Its soothing harmony, bright crisp vocals, and a behaved bumpin' broken beat felt as good as taking my shoes off after a 12 hour shift.

Moving through this CD you will notice it touches on many genres. From R&B to DnB, each one of these Petters brings something unique to the table. The only negative things I have to say about this CD are: track 5 In My Life. Choclair is a great Canadian artist, and his performance was great but it felt like it was an afterthought on the album. His vocals sounded more appropriate on the Mutt Mix version of this song not featured on this CD. The vocals on track 8, What You Need also seem a bit generic but are made up for with some great analogue sounding instruments to back it.

Rounding out the CD are some solid DNB tracks. The Real's Ragga vocal is a great throwback to a sound I loved - very loopy and satisfying. Wasting Your Time has to be my favourite track of the CD... It’s a great storytelling track. While listening to it, I see a confused girl with a glass of red wine sitting by a window listening to the sound of rain and this CD wondering if it’s a raindrop on the outside or a reflection of a tear she sees. "What is love again, make up my mind"... Brilliant!

All in all this is a great compilation CD ready for your headphones. I like it. It’s busy enough to keep you distracted from whatever made you put this disc on in the first place.

The Heavy Petters are also in good hands. Freaky Flow always has an ear for something different - something better putting his work into the category of, world class. It’s reflected in Smell the Glove. This is an album you will want to buy if you want something interesting to listen to. It’s well produced high quality, and audio pleasing. And that's something we all like.
