Saeed Younan @ Mod Club
Review by: Jay Samsair

Saeed Younan

Friday night at Mod Club was fantastic. Short, but fantastic. Younan played Progressive-Tech-Tribal as he does best, with just a shot of Electro, which I only tolerate at best. He got on around 1am and played until close at 4am. I left at 4am but I heard they extended it for 15-30 min. I couldn't be bothered to stay for an extended 1/2 hr as half the club had already left by 3:45am. Seems the College St crowd drinks more than anything or perhaps they have to work Sat mornings?

After going back to my hotel to shower, I headed to CZ to meet some friends around 6:30am. Carlo Lio played when we arrived, and was great, then Julian Loreto who was half-decent and closed with a string of dark tracks which kept the floor moving. He does have a great collection of zone tracks... by that, I mean non-commercial, limited pressing, dark, rhythmic, and Techy floor fillers. I ended up becoming a new fan, but I do need to hear more before I fully commit.

Next was Nathan Barato and all I can say was, “Nathan saved my life." By this point I wasn’t really in the mood but once Nathan got on I jumped back on the party boat. Left at noon and definitely had a blast, but probably won't be back on a Saturday since it's just not my style.

After I went back to my hotel with some friends and we partied and drank until sunset. Had a great time but if I could change two things: 1. I would have booked Saeed Younan at a big-room club where he could best play his signature sound, and 2. I would have pre-booked the 2nd night at the hotel to save $70. Oh well, live and learn.

I wanted to drive home to Kitchener Sun night but with the snow and bad roads, I left the next afternoon and stayed overnight at a friend’s place.
.
All in all a good time, didn't party like a Sonic or Guvernment weekend. I wanted to go out to Circa for the first time on Sat night but couldn't do it. Seems I cannot do a two-day party weekend anymore unless it's a special occasion like Stereo or the White Party in Montreal.
