SCENE CHARTS - Top 5

Deko-ze bio

June 2009 Top 10

1. WALLY LOPEZ – Hijinx * Melody mix (Formual Recs).
I was on the phone with my old friend and DJ colleague Dr. J from Saskatoon talking about tracks.  “Mike, have you heard Hijinx?”
“No” I responded.  From the sound of the knowing laugh and the fact I could hear him shaking his head over the phone meant I needed to track this down.

The funky Siwell & Virtullo remix got tons of play for months but it is the mean little monster that is the Melody mix that nearly made me fall out of my chair.  It is that quiet kid who sat at the back of the class reading comics and Playboys, threw spitballs and blamed the nerd beside him and didn’t listen to one syllable of what the teacher was saying.

2. STEVEN LEE – Fly Catcher * Marco G remix (Pacha) / MARCO G – Quebec * Dub (Plasmapool)
Two excellent Marco G records: the “Fly Catcher” remix is an excellent ass bouncing funky groover while “Quebec” is a full throttle electro/prog throbber!

3. DYLAN RHYMES – I Am Sweet * Hyperion remix (Lot 49)
Funky, uplifting, full bodied 80’s synth fueled electro fonk!  Sounds fucked up?  Well, it is so grab it now!!

4. JELO – Failed War
A balls out electro monsta – would you expect any less?
* Check out Jelo, DJ:TK, Don Berns (Dr. Trance) Robb G and me for “DIRTY DISCO” - our Annual South Stage Party during PRIDE (2009)!!  We proudly head into our 7th year and as an extra special treat, international stars Adam K & Soha will be serving a live set!!

5. MATTEO DIMARR & FLIPSIDE – Beside You / ETIENNE OZBORNE & ZOLTAN KONTES – Wak’ Up (NoRequest)
Let’s hear it for Canadian talent!!  DiMarr (aka M1 and one half of FPS) teams up fellow Torontonian Flipside to unleash Beside You – an emotive tech house goodie!
Meanwhile Ottawa’s Ozborne and Kontes serve a bouncy, ass shaking tech houser!!

* YOUNG PUNX – Juice & Gin (Southern Fried)
Ragga house party anthem!  Also check the fidgety banger meets electro rave Riva Starr remix!

6. THE FACE – Needin U * DJ Wady remix (CR2)
David Morales hands-in-the-air classic nursed back to life with this rulin’ remix!  This is gonna be big!

7. HAZE – Stay * Audiowhores remix (Defected)
Tired of minimal and tech house that goes absolutely nowhere?  Sick of groove-less electro that sounds like a shitty Atari video game?  If you want some real, soulful house that takes you back to the days of Blaze, Kings Of Tomorrow and Soul Providers, then check this out!

8. HAGENAAR & ALBRECHT – In & Out (Spinnin’)
Major summer anthem alert!  ATFC’s “In & Out Of My Life” gets a swift kick up the backside with a bottle of amyl waved under its nose and Voila!

9. THREE DRIVES – Greece 2000 * Sander Van Dien remix (Midtown) / CHICANE – Saltwater * Paul Thomas (Xtravaganza)
A lot of you may not know but my journey as a DJ began as being more of a hard techno, trance, hi-NRG spinner.  So, I’m quietly outraged when I hear sub-standard electro-by-numbers remixes of classic trance tracks.  Thankfully, in both of these cases, the original tracks are treated with respect and a very tasty update for ‘09!

10.  JAMES HOLDEN – Nothing * Ad Brown & Jerome Robins remix (Loaded)
James became massive at the start of the decade with his ethereal prog house sound and painstaking attention to detail.   His remixes of Opus 3’s “It’s A Fine Day”, Solid Sessions “Janiero”, Accadia’s “Into The Dawn” and Timo Maas’ “Better Make Room” got played by all the big-wigs but they were all over-shadowed by the astounding “Nothing”!  Anyone stepping up to do a remix has VERY large shoes to fill but Brown and Robins do a very respectable job!

* MOBY – Pale Horses * Gui Boratto remix (Little Idiot)
The first single from the Little Idiot’s new LP “Wait For Me” is full of lush sweeping strings, simple percussion and heart-wrenchingly melancholic vocals.  Gui Boratto re-rubs it for the dancefloor.

May 2009 Top 10

1. HOXTON WHORES FT. MARK STAFFORD - Wherever (Hussle)
Massive feel-good Dance/Rock crossover track! And that's the truth, Ruth!

2. STEPHANE K, JOHN CREAMER - Forget The World * Zoltan Kontes &
Jerome Robins remix (NY Love)

Whoa hoa! Jerome Robins who ran the world acclaimed music store and label Release and Ottawa's Zoltan Kontes have been knocking out tracks and remixes at a break-neck pace.Their fresh Alex Kenji style remix of "Forget The World", has eclipsed the stellar original. Big!

3. DJ DAN - That Phone Track 2009 * Dave Aude / Annihilated * Dopamine Dub (In Stereo)
The 2004 Original version of this was a wrecking ball on the dancefloor. A remix could-ve been tricky but Dave Aude who produced the original alongside DJ Dan gives us a beefed up remix that will smash things all over again!

4. PIG & DAN - Heat (Yoshitoshi)
I am all over the chugging funky Techno and this is another solid piece!

* DEKO-ZE & NICK FIORUCCI - Feel Love * Hatiras, Marco G, Cajjmere Wray and Charles Webster remixes (Hi-Bias)
Remix Pack #2 is finally out!! Many bases from funky Disco House, to tough Tribal, robotic Electro and sexy vibes are all covered.

5. ADDY & ADAM K - Popped Corn
You might remember that I mentioned this a few months ago. Well, it is STILL gaining momentum and even had international superstar producer / DJ Josh Gabriel run to the booth when I played this at Footwork to ask if he could licence it! (Also nab the dreamy Adam K & Soha remix of Sylvia Tosun's "Underlying Feeling". Oh and they just finished remixing U2!

6. ROYKSOPP FT. ROBYN - The Girl & The Robot * Kris Menace remix (Junior)
Moroder-esque dubby remix of the latest Royksopp single. Do yourself a favour and check out the eerie original with equally stunning video (which reminds me- Why doesn-t Muchmusic ever show some ground-breaking dance videos like this and instead spoon feed us re-runs of The O.C. WTF-!-! At least their early 90s Dance show X-Tendamix, hosted by Master T and his sidekick Roxy - who was a talking synthesizer - (WHAT-!) - gave us some fresh vids!

7. KURD MAVERICK - Blue Monday * Vandalism (Kontor) / VANDALISM - Bucci Bag (Vicious)
Is there anything original about these re-makes- Not a shred. Forward thinking- These are about as forward thinking as that twit who moaned (yes Moaned and not in that good way that we let our minds drift off to) when I said I didn't have Darude's"Sandstorm". Killin' the dancefloor? Absolutely.

8. YO MAJESTY! - Don't Let Go * Radio Slave (Domino)
Radioslave is something else. This starts off with jackin- shuffly percussion. Each element slinks in at all the right places, the vocals lead with sass and grit and before you know it, you are amidst a swampy mix of righteous fonk and swirling mid-ranged synths that assault your head senseless.

9. PARTY LTD. - Party Girl * James Talk remix
WOW! The Original was a little too commercial for me but James Talk delivers a gut-rumbling Techy throbber in a vocal remix and dub! And that-s the Double Truth, Ruth!

10. DIPLO & LAIDBACK LUKE - Hey
Disgusting leadhead gutter beatz!

* FEDDE LE GRAND - Scared Of Me * Hardwell mix (SPG)
Funky tune with attitude that-ll be getting played all over the place!

BURIED TREASURE!

EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL - Missing * Todd Terry remix - 1999
Deko-ze-s rant: I am really tired of people who used to come to clubs 5-years ago but now only come out twice a year, spend the entire time trying to blag into the VIP, bitch about having to pay a $5 cover and complain the scene isn't like it was "back in the day". That doesn't make you old school - it makes you incredibly lame and has me desperately looking for an escape route.

For those of you who respect the scene and bring positivity to the dancefloor, here is a true slice of heaven that is just as delicious now as it was back in the day. And that my fiends, is the triple-licious-psychedelic-bootylicious-sufferin--succotash Truth, Ruth!

April 2009 - Top 10

1. WOLFGANG GARTNER & FRANCIS PREVE – Yin (Toolroom)
This Texan duo has unleashed a full on energetic electro track that builds and drops in all the right places! Excellent!

2. HOXTON WHORES – Devil Toy (Hoxton Whores)
Shame is word that should be attached the Hoxtons! Over the years, they’ve created tons of hits by simply ripping off someone else’s tune, toughening up the beats and serving them back to us with a smirk! In this case, they’ve nicked the trademark bassline from the Deep Dish remix of Sandy B’s “Make The World Go Round”. I have to admit though, once again, they’ve done a spot on job! This has been an instant anthem for me all over the place!

3. DEADMAU5 – Bot (Maustrap)
After receiving Grammy and Juno nominations, the mau5 man returns to the floor with the pounding, tech-heavy “Bot”!

4. MARK MENDES – Gypsy Woman (Starter)
Remix time once again... sigh... I often find many of them as desirable as a limp dick in the heat of the moment. Luckily, Mendes delivers a gallopping, tech house pumper that gives the speakers and libido a good beating!

5. SEBASTIAN INGROSSO – Laktos (Refune)
12:47PM Sunday at the Comfort Zone after hours. The dancefloor is heaving. The speakers are being driven to capacity. I look out into the crowd and spot a young girl with beads and braids dancing with her eyes closed. She’s smiling. As the breakdown of “Laktos” reveals itself her arms and body sway in time. With her eyes still closed she shouts out one word that perfectly captures the mood that everyone is feeling. “Yes”!

6. DAVID AMO, NAVAS &ANDREA BERTOLINI – Nervioso * Olivier Giacomotto (Fresco)
Driving and chuggin’ tech house!

7. JOEY SEMINARA & SIMON GAIN – Revenge / Music Behavior (PBR)
And speaking of Canadian dudes making waves, many of you have noticed that there seems to be a new Joey Seminara track in almost every chart of mine! That’s because he’s bangin’ out sick tune after tune! Once again, he has teamed up fellow fiend Simon Gain to rip out Revenge. (They are currently in the Beatport Top 10 for “Far Away” that I charted last month!)

8. SUDHA ft. ZOE JOHNSTON – Leche * Thomas Schwartz & Fausto Fanizza Vocal / Way Out West (Bish Bash)
WOW! An ‘original’ song! Fantastic breezy progressive that is warm and inviting as a morning hug from mum.

9. JAYFORCE – Bouncy Bonanza
WOW! I was not expecting something so funky for this Toronto fiend known for his charging big room electro sets. “Oi! But what does this sound like?” you ask? Well, take the spastic Mescal Kid tune “Magic”, slip some Nyquil in its rum & coke to get it slow down and behave and make it sit down and watch the pilot episode of Teletubbies four times in a row and you’ll get the idea.

10. KLEERUP FT TITIYO – Longing for Lullabyes * Shapeshifters remixes (EMI)
If you’re a fan of Kleerup’s “With Every Heartbeat” or Shapeshifter’s “Chime” you’ll love this!!! (There’s also a tasty John Dahlback remix too!)

March 2009 - Top 10

1. CHRIS LAKE – If You Knew * ATFC / Original / Feed Me (Nervous)
WHOA!! Chris Lake is on a roll! “The One” was easily one of the biggest tunes of 2008 and “Changes” was massive in 2006! The Original version of “If You Knew” will go over like a dream with those who loved “Changes”, the Feed Me mix adds a filthy alterna-dance edge and ATFC’s pumpin’ hands in the air remix is easily my fave!

2. DAVE SEAMAN – Gobbledygook * Marco G & Amin Golestan Rehype mix (Audio Therapy)
Yikes! Quebec’s Marco G is making some serious moves! Not only did it rip it up at my Birthday bash at Footwork but he’s also had a slew of remixes on world renowned labels including Sander Kleinenberg’s Little Mountain Records, DJ Dan’s In Stereo and Vortechtral’s Techment Records to name a few. You can also find his track “Da Head” on my “Canada’s Finest: House” compilation on Hi-Bias Records. His latest remix ”Gobbledygook” (I love that title) will be unleashed on Dave Seaman’s Audio Therapy Records. Its a tribal tech stormer that is getting plays from several of the world’s top jocks!

3. FAITHLESS – Music Matters * Mark Knight (Toolroom)/ BLACK SCIENCE ORCHESTRA – Save Us * Mark Knight remix (JBO)
The Axwell remix of this was and still is one of those of the best Faithless remixes ever! It has been one of the highlights of many of my sets and is a tough act to follow but once again, Mark Knight proves why he is one of the top producers / remixers around by presenting a floor ripping, driving remix! You’ll be hearing me bangin’ this out for a while!!

And speaking of Mr Knight, also check out his sexy tribal re-rub of the 1996 classic Black Science Orchestra track “Save Us”.

4. ERASURE – Drama! * Andy Bell & JC remix (Mute)
British pop duo Erasure have been crafting their sound for 23 years and to celebrate they’re releasing “Total Pop” that compiles their past 40 hits! As a teaser they are also releasing a remix album called “Pop: Remixed” and this re-do of “Drama” is by far the best!!

5. MASTIKSOUL & RENE AMESZ – Swaffe
Some music is made for those who want to show off their new threads; some music is made for fellow producers and some music is made for those who have great hip/ass action (on the dancefloor)! I call this ”boompsy boomp” house. Beware of the hee-yuge build and drop on this!

6. JOEY SEMINARA & SIMON GAIN – This Is A Recording / Triplet / Far Away (PBR)
Mr. Seminara is one of the men behind last years’ runaway hit “Just The Tip”! Since then, he has been pumpin’ out the tunes including these dee-lish bass-heavy, tech house chuggers!

7. NIKI B & CHRISTIAN EFFE – Hossa * Chris Soul / Sergio Fernandez remixes (Stereo)
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Tribal is on its way back! And for proof, check out this excellent release on Chus & Ceballos’ Stereo label!

8. TOM SAWYER – South America * Mastiksoul remix
OK, once and for all, to the daily (yes daily) e-mails I get asking what is that track that has the 57 year old Indian dude telling us to “Never get high on your own supply”, this is the tune!

9. FEDDE LE GRAND – Amplifier (Toolroom)
Simple yet oh so effective! This stomper sneaks up on you from behind and before you know it, you’re hooked!!

10. ADAM K – The Question (Hot Box Digital)
Y’know that moment when the big, sweaty dudes are bouncing off the walls and banging on things; and the girls are receding into the dark corners in horror and the gay boys’ mouths start watering? Three weeks ago, a huge sheet of metal flew off the walls at The Comfort Zone and crashed onto the floor! (Thankfully, the casualties were minimal.) This track was playing at the time!

And speaking of big stuff, this is one club beast! People have been falling over themselves asking about this!

4. ROBERT OWENS & KID MASSIVE ¬ Another Day * Hott 22 remix (Gossip)

5. SYDNEY BLU ¬ Senses & Things (Maustrap)
Toronto¹s Sydney Blu follows up the massive "Give It Up For Me" with a full on Proggy tune. Undeniable Main Room room stuff!

DEKO-ZE¹S OCTOBER BUZZ CUTZ!
PPM Promotions, Hi-Bias Records, Balance Record Pool, Music2Mix Pool, ZipDJ Pool, Scenester Magazine, Guvernment, Comfort Zone, Footwork (Toronto), Parking (Montreal)

1. DEADMAU5 & KASKADE I Remember (Maustrap)
SIMPLY GORGEOUS! This reminds me of when I first heard Opus III¹s ³It¹s A Fine Day² back in 1992!

2. TWOCKER Chopper * Dopamine remix (Vacation) / TWOCKER - We Like To Move It
Two absolutely ridiculous tracks from Twocker! Beware of the bassline in the ³We Like To Move It² remix. My gast was well and truly flabbered when I first heard it! (Thank you James Rattan for blasting that one out for me!)

3. BJORK Dull Flame Of Desire * Modeselektor Remix For Girls (One Little Indian)
Snaky, cunning and menacing deep techno remix from the latest Bjork release!

4. CEVIN FISHER You Got Me Burnin¹ Up * DJ Chus & D-Formation remix (Subversive)
I thought I had had enough remixes of this track culminating in the strong Tim Davison mix. I should¹ve known that DJ Chus & D-Formation would take it one step further!

5. MOM & DAD This Is Shit * Bryan Cox (Crux)
Yes, my own Mom and Dad would say ³This Is Shit². Very. Loudly. For the rest of us though, this is pretty tearin¹ track!

Deko-ze’s September 2008 Top 5

1. TOM STEPHAN VS FIERCE RULING DIVA¬ - Phreekn * Maurel & Fauvrelle / Martin Acccorsi (ChumboMundo)
Fucking Massive! This was one of the Floor Destroyers at Montreal¹s Parking last month! CAN¹T. STOP!!

2. THE ADVENT ¬ - Code Noir / Voodoo (Drumcode)
The Advent have been making uncompromising, ³proper² techno since 1993. They took the foundations that Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins laid and took it to a whole other level!

3. D-UNITY ¬- Tension (Beat Therapy)
I said it last month with ³Don¹t Think About Drugs² and this month I gotta say it this month about ³Tension² - these guys are on a path to dominate the Tribal-tech scene! Carry On!!

4. CHRIS LAKE ¬- Only One * Original / Mastiksoul remix (Nervous)
Excellent dirty vocal house tune from Lake.

5. KID DUB ¬- Mongo (Definitive)
Curious George wakes up one day, decides he¹s needs more friends than a oddly touchy dude in a yellow hat. He sneaks out the back door and embarks on adventure.....

BURIED TREASURE!

SLACKER -¬ Scared (XL) (1996)
Shem Mccauley has worked with TONS of artists including Bedrock, Moby, Prodigy, Jark Prongo, Grace Jones, Quivver, Rhythm Masters, Armand van Helden, Yazz, Bomb The Bass, Betty Boo and uh, Herb Alpert (yes, really. And the track is quite good thank you very much)! ³Scared² was released in 1996 and put his ³Slacker² pseudonym on the map. It still sounds wicked today!!

Deko-ze’s August 2008 Top 5

1. SHAPESHIFTERS – Chime * Martijn Ten Velden remix (Defected)
In 1989 two brothers who called themselves Orbital wrote a track called “Chime”. They recorded it onto their father’s cassette deck and released it on a small label called Oh-Zone. It went on to become one of the biggest rave tracks of the decade! The Shapeshifters have re-recorded it (with Orbital’s blessing) and got Martijn Ten Velden to provide an absolutely stunning remix!!!!

2. KYLIE MINOGUE – The One * Freemasons remix (Parlophone)
I haven’t been into much of the material from Kylie’s latest “X” album but I am LOVING the Freemasons remix of this current single!! This has been filling the floors for months! (Thank you DJ JB!)

3. V.A. CABARET: TRIBAL VISION RECORDS (Tribal vision)
I’m not too bothered by comps but this one is a must!! Its loaded with fresh and delicious electro, minimal and tech house tracks. My picks are from John Deere, Brisker & Magitman, Astronivo vs Dj Zombi and there’s even a tribute to the KLF!

4. STRETCH N’ VERN – I’m Alive * Adam Shaw remix (Spot On)
Another old school goodie re-vived. Its not remotely “cool” and the purists will whine and bitch behind their computer screens (boh-ring!). This will, however, cause serious havoc on the ‘floor!!!

5. DEKO-ZE N’ GAVO FT CAMILLE DOUGLAS – Explosive * Ramlover remix (Hi-Bias)
Watch out for fresh remixes of our current electro pumper including a chunky, stompin’ one by one of my favorite djs (under the fiendishly deceptive name Ramlover!)

Deko-ze's May 2008 Top 5

1. DEKO-ZE N’ GAVO FT. CAMILLE DOUGLAS – Explosive!! (Hi-Bias)
The Annual SOUTH STAGE party at PRIDE is my favorite gig of the year!! Once again, me, Don Berns, Jelo and DJ:TK will be ripping it up on the decks Sunday June 29th at Church & College!! Plus, as an added bonus Camille Douglas will be doing a LIVE PA of the new Deko-ze n’ Gavo bomb “Explosive!” Come check it out!!!

2. CHRISTIAN SMITH & JON SELWAY – Total Departure * Cirez D Remiz (Drumcode)
Full bodied stuff!! This is a testosterone driven mutha!!

3. GABRY FASANO – Loco Motion * Riccardo Ferri remix (Alchemy)

4. WOLFGANG GARTNER – Frenetica (Kindergarten)
Ridiculous, epilepsy inducing electro!

Wicked follow up from Sydney “Give It Up For Me” Blu and M (“Unravel”) 1!!

BURIED TREASURE!

ROCKERS REVENGE – Walking On Sunshine * Hott 22 remix (Gossip) (1982)
To put it simply, this track IS Charles Pavia. For those of you not familiar with Mr 4Paws, all you need to know is that this 2004 remix of the 1982 disco track is sun-drenched, funky vocal house of the highest order – purrr-fect for the upcoming boat cruises!

Deko-ze’s February 2008 Top 5

1. JOEY SEMINARA & DANNY NAGELS ft. MC FLIPSIDE ¬ - Just The Tip * Hatiras
remix (Hi-Bias)
This tune is MASSIVE! Hatiras provides a chuggy, bassy remix and dub that has been destroying the floors every time I play it! Plus, the Original and Custodian mixes are doin' the biz too. This will be out on Hi-Bias Records and will also be featured on their upcoming compilation CD I have mixed. "CANADA'S FINEST: DANCE" also features fresh new tracks and remixes from Deadmau5, MV, Deko-ze n' Gavo, Addy, M1, Cajjmere Wray and several more Canuck faves!

2. D-FORMATION ¬ - Shameless (Beat Freak)
This has already been getting massive support from Deep Dish, Simon & Shaker, Marco V, DJ Chus, Hernan Catteneo and many more of the world's heavyhitters!

3. MARK BROWN FT SARAH CRACKNELL ¬ - The Journey Continues * Mickey Slim /
Thomas Gold
I just about fell off my chair when I heard Mark Brown (who has done production work for Amy Winehouse) was doing a track with St. Etienne vocalist, Sarah Cracknell. The Original version will crack the UK Top 20 and the dance remixes from Slim and Gold are already rockin¹ it!

4. RALPH FALCON ¬ - The Dig * Original / Umek / Radio Slave remixes
(Renaissance)
This is so dark and brooding, you can almost feel your boots sinking into the muck. Falcon's "Break You" is also tearin¹ up dancefloors worldwide but "The Dig" is meant to take things deeper…A LOT deeper.

5. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE ¬ - Feel Love * Hatiras remix (Hi-Bias)
This remix funks things up! Also, watch out for the Deko-ze remix and Dub, plus remixes from Montreal¹s Marco G and Toronto¹s Cajjmere Wray!

BURIED TREASURE!

DEPECHE MODE ¬ - Master & Servant * Slavery Whip 12² mix (1984)

Most people know this incredible band for tracks like “Enjoy The Silence’, ³Personal Jesus”, “Policy Of Truth” and “Strangelove”. If you dig a little further, you will also find gems like ³Master & Servant². It was danceable, sadistic, taunting and made many boy and girl blush. I¹ve taken to play some of the new mixes but respect must also be paid to this fantastic Original.

Deko-ze’s January 2008 Top 5

DEKO-ZE¹S JANUARY BUZZ CUTZ ¬ BPM TV!
(PPM Promotions, Hi-Bias Records, Balance Record Pool, Music2Mix Pool, ZipDJ Pool, Scenester Magazine, Guvernment, Comfort Zone, Footwork, Straight (Toronto), Parking (Montreal)

1. CHUS & CEBALLOS ¬ Go On * Tek mix (Stereo)
I remember the first time I heard Danny Tenaglia¹s ³Dibiza² and I thoughts³WHOA!! This is going to be heee-yuge!!² Not only was it a great track but you could just visualise SO much as the track rampaged itself through your head! This is the sort of track that sounds like its going to jump out of the speakers!! Beware!!

2. DJ GROOVY ¬ End Of The World * Tribalishious remix (Knob)
US label, Knob, has been bangin¹ out SICK tribal for years! Whether it¹s sexy Lexicon Avenue style progginess, or Tenaglia murkiness or Rooster & Peralta style bangers you¹re after, search out Knob. The Tribalishious mix of the new DJ Groovy track is wicked!

3. MARCO G & DJ KAL ¬ Apologise * Way Up High Mashup mix (white)
It has been a LONG time since I have had SO many people ¬ clubbers and djs ¬ asking about this remix! Montreal¹s Marco G & DJ Kal do a mash-up of One Republic¹s ³Apologise² and their remix of Kevin Sunray¹s ³Way Up High². MASSIVE!!!

4. DR. KUCHO ¬ Macamba (Disc Doctor)
Timeless. This could have been made in 2004, 1997 or yesterday. The beats are rollin¹, the Spanish guitar reminds of the summer time boat cruise crowd where everyone is cruising all the hot boys and girls and the break is a deep, soothing scene that is taken right from the ones of those ³eyes closed / I¹m immersed in the music ¬ fuck time and space² moments!

5. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE ¬ Feel Love * Deko-ze & Fierce remix (Hi-Bias)
Back in 1996, ³Feel Love² was a huge underground hit for Canadian label Hi-Bias. So, as I dug through the Hi-Bias back catalogue and found this, I thought it would be suiting to bring this back for Œ08. This slow burner has been getting wicked reaction! Also, beware of a chunky and punky Deko-ze Mix and Dub, PLUS further remixes from Montreal¹s Marco G and Toronto¹s Cajjmere Wray!

Deko-ze December 2007 Top 5

1. STONEBRIDGE ¬ “You Don¹t Know * Hott 22 mix (Egoiste)
Catchy? Yes. Floor filler? Yes. A little commercial? Yes. But is it damn good? You bet!

2. D-FORMATION & DAVID FERRERO ¬ “What You Want” (Yoshitoshi)
OMG! Ridiculous. D-Formation is one of the only people who could make a 3 note melody sound SOOO deceiving, sneaky and rewarding! Top Tribal with five outstanding mixes!

3. MIKA ¬ “Love Today” Switch remix (Casablanca)
There was a track called ³Love Today² that was prancing about and giggling like a school girl. From around a dark alley, Switch emerged, bent ³Love Today² over, poked the cheese out of it and spat some thuggish dirty rips in its face!

4. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE ¬ “Feel Love” ‘07 * Deko-ze & Fierce remix (Hi-Bias)
Back in 1996, ³Feel Love² was a huge underground hit for Canadian label Hi-Bias. So, as I dug through the Hi-Bias back catalogue and found this, I thought it would be suiting to bring this back for ‘07. This slow burner has been getting wicked reaction! Also, beware of a chunky and punky Deko-ze Mix and Dub, PLUS further remixes from Montreal¹s Marco G and Toronto¹s Cajjmere Wray!

5. DEADMAU5 & JELO ¬ “The Reward Is Cheese” (Rising)
I witnessed a dancer¹s head pop clean off when this track was working its assault!

November 2007 – Deko-ze Top 5

1. LAIDBACK LUKE ¬– “Rockin¹ with the Best” (Rene Amesz mix (Mixmash)
Now this is some funky shit!

2. BORIQUA TRIBEZ ¬ “Travolta* Cave remix (Adult)
When you see me bouncing frantically in the booth, working the EQs like my life depended on it and shaking my ass, 'cuz its why my momma gave it to me, is because this techno stomper is raging through the woofers!!

3. KLEERUP FT ROBYN ¬ With Every Heartbeat (Pete Tong & Dave Spoon remix (EMI)

WAIT!!!! Don¹t run off! Yes, this is the same Robyn who did that wretched euro-cheese pile of plop ³Do You Know What It Takes² from years back. ³With Every Heartbeat² makes up for that disaster and SOOO much more!! This has been a favorite track of mine for months! And Yes, I do love the sound of her vocal (whereas Wade thinks it sounds like Kate Bush on acid. You decide...)

4. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE ¬– “Feel Love” Œ 07 (Hi-Bias)
Back in 1996, ³Feel Love² was a huge underground hit for Canadian label Hi-Bias. So, as I dug through the Hi-Bias back catalogue and found this, I thought it would be suiting to bring this back for Œ07. This slow burner has been getting wicked reaction! Also, beware of a chunky and punky Deko-ze n¹ Gavo mix, PLUS further remixes from Montreal¹s Marco G and Toronto¹s Cajjmere Wray!

5. SHAPESHIFTERS ¬ - “A New Day* (Nocturnal mix (Positiva)
One of the best uplifting house tracks in a while! It¹s not quite ³Lola¹s Theme² but is a VERY close second!!

Deko-ze September 2007 - Top 10

1. KLEERUP FT ROBYNWith Every Heartbeat (Pete Tong & Dave Spoon remix) (EMI)
THE Vocal track of the year so far!  This has been melting the hearts of even the most hardened of clubbers!

2. DAVID PADLEY & CHRIS SPECIAL - Terrace Attack (Pionner Attack mix) (Suesse)
WOW!  The thievery continues!!  This time these guys are trying very hard to sound like another particular pair of producers.  However, this is still one helluva funky, glitchy tune!

3. SHAPESHIFTERS - A New Day (Nocturnel mix) (Positiva)
OK, it¹s not quite ³Lola¹s Theme² but it is VERY close second.  This went over like a dream during my Sunrise set at the ³Labour Of Love² jam in the Skybar of Guvernment!!

4. TRACEY THORN - Grand Canyon (King Unique mix) (3D)
Tracey is one the timeless cross generational voices of English pop, folk and dance!  She is also the voice behind Everything But The Girl.  Grand Canyon is the latest single from her excellent ³Out Of The Woods² album!

5. JDOT & DUMB DAN - Guess I¹m Dumb (Dumb) / DUMBEST Dirty Beat
I don¹t know who Dumb Dan is but I do know that him and his label have been knocking out the goods for a while.  Yes, more dirty electro but there are no loud, abrasive, disassociative sounds or nasty farty bass.  These are catchy tune that are bound to get stuck in your head.

6. DJ CHUS pres. PETE THA ZOUK - There Is A God (Stereo)
Think Tenaglia¹s ³Bottom Heavy² and you¹ll get the picture!

7. MARK KNIGHT - Party Animal (Rene Amesz remix) (Toolroom)
This juddering rude bassline track has been ruling my floor for months now!

8. DONALD GLAUDE - Big (Bug Eyed)
Donald Glaude has been one of my all time favorite djs for over 10 years. Period.  Like Carl Cox, he is a massive force to be reckoned with when he gets behind the decks.  So, it is no surprise that his latest treat for the ears and feet is ³BIG²!!!!

9. PQM PROJECT - The Shit They Love EP (Abducted)
Prince Quick mix was behind the brilliant tracks ³You Are Sleeping² that came out on Yoshitoshi a few years back, the Led Zeppelin sampling ³Babe, I¹m Gonna Leave You² and Steve Lawler¹s ³Rise In².  This entire ep is progressive brilliance from the start and the standout track ³Shit Just Stays The Same² is simply timeless.  For fans of Sasha & Digweed, Nick Warren and Traffic.

10. AVALON SUPERSTAR So Alive * Playmaker dub (Groove Factory)
Some of you aren¹t really into all the dark sounds that have been ruling today¹s club floors.  Menacing minor chords with massive amounts of delay and reverb just isn¹t for everyone.  Avalon Superstar have come to the rescue with a fun, uplifting yet driving track.  The Dub reminds me of the Mark Picchioti remix of Sunscreem¹s classic ³Secrets² from 1995!

Top 5 Chart – August 2007

1. DJ CHUS pres. PETE THA ZOUK - There Is A God (Stereo)
Hands down, one of THE best  Stereo tracks in a while.  Still doin¹ the biz!

2. MARK KNIGHT - Party Animal (Rene Amesz remix) - Toolroom
This juddering rude bassline track has been ruling my floor for months now!

3. D-FORMATION & CARLOS MANACA - Sexy Sheet - Beat Freak
Sheeshh.. Yet another amazing D-Formation track on the ever reliable Beat Freak label from Spain.  Your gast will be well and truly flabbered!

4. AVALON SUPERSTAR - So Alive (Playmaker dub) - Groove Factory

5. PQM - The Shit They Love EP - Abducted
PQM is one of the only dance artists who faithfully re-made Led Zeppelin¹s ³Babe, I¹m Gonna Leave You² into something even more stunning!  He was also the key influence behind Steve Lawler¹s ³Rise In².  ³The Shit They Love EP² amazingly follows the same high standard!  This is forward thinking music for those with more refined tastes.  WOW!

Top 5 Chart – July 2007

1. DJ CHUS pres. PETE THA ZOUK There Is A God (Stereo)
I have been into the Stereo label for years but this is not only THE best Stereo track I¹ve heard in a while, it is one of THE best, period! Reminds me of the classic Tenaglia sound around the time of ³Bottom Heavy² and his remix of ³So Get Up².

2. MARK KNIGHT Party Animal * Rene Amesz remix (Toolroom)
Both these guys are at the top of their game!

3. MISJAH What Is? (Craft)
This is the sort of track that makes me put down my headphones and dance like a fiend!

4. CITY ZEN Beautiful * Jamie Fanatic remix (Sirup)
I can just envision Fanatic wearing a chef¹s hat in the studio. He chops, slices and dices like a madman. He serves the dish with exquisite presentation but then gives you the cold stare from the kitchen the minute you¹re done so he can give your table to the next lucky customer!

5. OSCAR L I Like It EP (Underground Sound Of Madrid)
³All people on this Earth are truly one² the sample says. ³Damn right!² I say!

BURIED TREASURE - LOGAN CIRCLE Disco Life * Sharp Remix (1997)

I found this gem while doing some record shopping before a gig in Forty Wayne, Indiana. It was nestled quietly amongst that week¹s new releases.

The label looked cool so I gave it a listen. From the moment the needle fell into the groove, I had to have it and it STILL is a weapon of mine.
I call it ³thug-fucking house². It¹s well, thuggish, juddering, driving tribal that rips through the speakers! This truly stands the test of time and always has djs and party fiends charging at the booth to find out what this is!!

Top 5 Chart – June 2007

1.DJ CHUS & PETER GELDERBLOM – Join Ur Hands (Stereo)
A full on, tribal-electro-tech stormer!  You should expect nothing but top quality from these fantastic producers!! The package also comes with Rene Amesz, Rob Mirage and Koki remixes!

2. AXWELL, SEBASTIAN INGROOSO, STEVE ANGELLO – Get Dumb * Mark Knight Dub Ray Dub (Special Projects)
The Original falls into the “This is so dumb, its great!” category.  Mark Knight showed up and gave this a swift kick in the ass!  Mind numbing.

3. MARTIJN TEN VELDEN – I Wish * remixes (AATW)
I didn’t think remixes of this huge hit from late last year but Leutzenkirchen, Whelan & Di Scala, Tom Novy and Hook & Sling do it up right!!   (Thank you DJ JB for bringing this goodie to my attention!)

4. DUBFIRE – Roadkill (Toolroom)
Dubfire is one half of Deep Dish who have serving up the goods for well over a decade.  This solo track, however, is not something you would expect.  It’s a nasty blast of driving techno fused with house and electro sensibilities.

5. RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS – By The Way * Peter Gelderblom & Rene Amesz mix (Warner)
Yes, many dance versions of rock tracks need to be quickly flushed down the toilet.  This one, however, is DA shit!

BURIED TREASURE - PRIMAL SCREAM – Don’t Fight It, Feel It (1990)

In the late 80s / early 90s, indie / dance groups like The Soup Dragons, The Farm and Stereo MCs had huge crossover hits on both sides of the pond.  Primal Scream were right in the thick of it and their “Screamadelica” album is a must have for fans of the sound that was “now”.  “Don’t Fight It, Feel It” was a snapshot of the UK dance scene’s e-fueled culture in its wondrous totality.  And it still sounds damn good today!

Top 5 Chart – May 2007

1. DAVE SPOON – “Background Noise” (Toolroom)
The latest from Spoon blips, bleeps and tears holes through the speakers! Killah!

2. D.O.N.S. – “Big Fun” * Dave Spoon mix (Kontor)
Another year, another 297 remixes of Inner City¹s classic ³Big Fun². Germany¹s D.O.N.S. Who already hit big with the remix of Technotronic¹s ³Pump Up The Jam² brings ³.. Fun² back to life.  Man of the Moment, Dave Spoon, provides the funked up remix !  Wicked!

3. MARK KNIGHT & D. RAMIREZ - “Columbian Soul”
Four months on and this is still twackin¹ it for me! It¹s a tough, driving mutha of a track that is rippin¹ people¹s heads off and making NO apologies!

4. TIMMY & TOMMY - “Rapture” * Discount Rhinos remix (Queep Organic)
Fierce, seductive tribal retouch of Blondie¹s massive 80¹s hit!  Has been going over like a dream for the str8 and gay crowds at Parking in Montreal, Guvernment and Comfort Zone in Toronto.

5. MIC PERRI - “Have A Nice Day” * Jaimie Fanatic remix (PBR)
MC Flipside, has been a staple of the Canadian Dance music scene for well over a decade.  Him and long time partner, Freaky Flow have toured the world causing serious damage.  Nowadays you can catch him spinning sexy, chunky house.  He also records under the name Mic Perri.  The latest sees mixes from M1, John Pegnato, Ron Resser & Dan Soemz, KMFX and a jackin¹ re-rub from Fanatic. It¹s like Switch on crack (and I mean that in a very good way!)

BURIED TREASURE - SHAMEN ENTACT (Sony / One Little Indian) - 1990

The Shamen took life in Scotland in 1986 and its founders were Colin Angus and Will Sin.  Two years later, they moved to London in time for the “Summer Of Love” ripe with warehouse raves and illegal clubs.  The soundtrack was Acid House and the E¹s were good.  There they met Mr C who joined the group.

They then toured the world presenting LIVE Electronic/Psychedelic /Progressive (back when that word actually meant something) Dance music to clubbers while incorporating spirituality and socio-political issue into their lyrics.

In 1989, they burst into the scene with the single “Pro-gen”.  It sold over 100,000 copies and was played by djs everywhere.  Two years later, the track STILL had power so they re-released it as “Move Any Mountain Pro gen ‘91”. It is still one of their signature tracks.

The En-tact album followed and it reads as a whos who in the scene. Orbital, Paul Oakenfold, William Orbit, Graham Massey (808 State), Evil Eddie Richards, Renegade Soundwave, Jack Dangers (Meat Beat Manifesto), Beatmasters and Lenny D all produced tracks.

The Boss Drum album followed in 1994 and had huge smashes like “L.S.I.”, ”Ebeneezer Goode” and the title track but for me, it is “En-tact” that provides not only an outstanding history lesson but is a damn good album start to finish. A rarity these days!
